Two Kadima Thanksgiving “Tikkun Olam” Projects

The holidays of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah are approaching quickly.  Many of us will be visiting with friends and family and enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving meal.  However, in our community, not everyone will have this oopporunity.  Many members of our community will not be able to celebrate Thanksgiving as they do not have enough money to buy food for a proper celebration.  This year at Kadima, we are having  a Thanksgiving Food Drive (November 23-24) and a Turkey Drive (7:15-8:00AM on November 24) to help fight hunger in Los Angeles.  Tomorrow your child will receive a Trader Joe’s bag to fill up.  Rabbi Tarfon teaches in Teachings of the Sages, “You are not obligated to finish the task, neither are you free to neglect it.”  We are not obligated to end hunger in Los Angeles, however, we are obligated to help fight it.  Please help us fulfill this important mitzvah.  We are also supporting a “Shoes that Fit” Drive.

For many of us it is our tradition to give gifts to our children during Hanukkah.  This year we are continuing the Kadima tradition to help those who struggle to obtain basic necessities. Again, we are partnering with Hart Street Elementary, Napa Street Elementary and Shoes That Fit.  We will be buying and collecting shoes for children who cannot afford new ones.  This year when you are buying gifts for your children, buy one or two pairs of shoes for children whose parents cannot afford to buy them new shoes.
